Maharishi Valmiki International Airport is the new official name of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport / Shri Ram International Airport Ayodhya, is an ambitious project that aims to enhance air connectivity globally and attract tourism in this ancient, holy, birth City of lord Ram and historic city Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

In 2021, the Government of Uttar Pradesh officially changed the airport’s name from Shri Ram International Airport to honor Lord Rama. The airport now bears the illustrious title of Maharishi Valmiki International Airport. As this new name holds deep connection with cultural and religious significance, resonating with the rich heritage and history of Ayodhya.

Location and Key Features

The airport is situated adjacent to NH-27 and NH-330 at Naka, Faizabad, Sultanpur Highway Road within the Ayodhya district. Its proximity to Ayodhya ensures convenient access for travelers. Visiters can easily get the local transportation. If you are visiting for the first time, then let me tell you that it is nearly 1 km far from the Awath University, Ayodhya.

Maharishi Valmiki International Airport is acquiring 22 lakh square feet area as of now and is ready to expand to 37 lakh square feet to manage future passengers capacity.

The modern terminal building spans 6,500 square meters and is designed to accommodate up to 300 passengers during peak hours at present and will construct to giant capacity building in near future.

The airport is expected to handle around 600,000 passengers.

Status And Inauguration

Work on the airport began in February 2022 along with the construction of Lord Ram Temple, marking a significant milestone. The inauguration of the airport is all set to be held by none other than our Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th December 2023. After that the flight Operations will continue to regular flight operations as scheduled to commence from 10th January 2024 onwards.
