- First of all you will have to play at City level and be a winner in a particular sports category.
- Then you will have to compete at State Level Competition and have to be a topper.
- After that you have to compete at National level (NOCs) in that particular sports and show your outstanding performance.
After achieving it, there are three selection process on the behalf of any athlete selected to perform in Olympic.

1.Achieve Qualifying Range:
There is a competition conducted in every country that want to participate in Olympics. In which the best athletes in a particular sports of that country participate. There are certain benchmarks of each Sports respectively that have to be achieved by an athlete to be selected in Olympics.
Like if the benchmark of 100 m race is to finish within 11.5 seconds (the entry mark) to be selected to go for olympic games. After completing the race if a winner win amongst other competitors but have finished the race in 11.6 seconds, then that winner can not be the part of olympic, although he or she won the race. It means that particular benchmark should be achieve for the selection in Olympic.
This benchmark is different for each sports and slightly differ between men and women athlete.
2. World Ranking System:
This is the second selection process through which any athlete can be the part of Olympics. To be selected ranking wise in Olympics, athlete have to be in international ranking under certain level of merit. This merit range is differ sports wise as in certain Sports athletes are considered under 48 international ranking where as in some other Sports athletes are considered within 24 ranking in international merit.
So in any country if no athlete qualifies for Olympics to achieving qualifying range then ranking method is considered for the selection in Olympic. Now let’s see what is the third selection process in olympic.
3. Universilities Spots:
Apart from the above two selection criteria, the third criteria is universilities spots but this is applicable for only under developed countries. The countries which are very small and under developed can participate in Olympics under this category. But India does not fall in this category.
